Navajo County, Arizona – The legendary Santa Fe Railroad crosses through the Painted Desert area at the Petrified Forest National Park.  The Santa Fe Railroad first came through northern Arizona in 1882. The Painted Desert is a broad region of rocky badlands featuring unique rocks in a variety of hues - lavenders, grays, reds, oranges and pinks.
