Mariachi is the most popular and distinct folklore music of the country of Mexico. Both in Mexico and the United States, Mariachi Music is widely admired. The name mariachi refers to the music itself, but also refers to the musicians or mariachis that play it. Mariachi Music is deeply embedded in Mexican and Mexican-American cultures. The popularity of Mariachi music began to increase during the first half of the 20th century. The Mexican film industry boosted Mariachi music in new heights and as classic movies of the Golden Era internationalized that featured this peculiar type of music, Mariachi Music's popularity gained fame in the United States and many other countries around the world. Mariachi music uses the following instruments: vihuela, violin, guitar, guitarron, trumpet and other unique instruments. Mariachi music is an essential part of Mexican life, and just as tequila -a famous distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant-- Mariachi Music has become an internationally-known aspect of Mexico, and its distinctive sound has become an emblematic symbol of Mexican culture.
