Navajo County, Arizona – Rock art created by prehistoric artists is seen in this area of the Painted Desert known as Puerco Pueblo. The petroglyphs are engraved on boulders that show a dark coating known as desert varnish. The Painted Desert is a broad region of rocky badlands featuring unique rocks in a variety of hues - lavenders, grays, reds, oranges and pinks.
